New Zealand Certificate in Manaaki Marae (Level 3)
Qualifications
This qualification is intended for people looking to gain skills and knowledge for the purpose of gaining employment in marae-based services and/or the hospitality industry; and for fulfilling roles in wharekai and/or kāuta.
The underlying purpose of this training is to promote marae as socially integrative venues that foster identity, self-respect, pride and social control.
We will instil in learners, a sense of pride in having ancestors that were at the helm of one of the greatest stories of migration in the history of the world.
Outline
This course will cover:
- Te Reo & Tikanga – Te reo me ngā tikanga of mahinga kai and kaitiakitanga of kai Māori. The pōwhiri process and te reo me ngā hui tikanga.
- Whanaungatanga
- Mahi – Mahi tahi to achieve team outcomes.
- Health & Safety – Health, safety, and hygiene processes and practices to ensure own safety and the safety of others cooking skills to prepare, and present a range of dishes commonly served in the wharekai.
Structure
Duration 20 weeks comprising 4 noho marae (1 per month) of 2 days duration
Delivery Mixed Mode delivery, 2 days a week and self-directed learning activities
