Private Training Establishment

Ringa Atawhai Mātauranga was born of the dreams and aspirations of its founding members who, “for the love of it, lent a helping hand to those in need in the community regardless of race, colour, creed or religion, rich or poor.”

Nearly four decades ago, a collective of health workers under the umbrella of Ringa Atawhai Trust, spear-headed a movement to prioritise Māori health in Te Tai Tokerau. From this, Ringa Atawhai Mātauranga was born and formally established in 2014. We remain the only Kaupapa Māori NZQA registered and accredited, locally owned and operated, Private Training Establishment in Te Tai Tokerau. Our roots are firmly entrenched in health and health promotion, focussing on training the unregulated Māori health and disability workforce.

Our mission is to connect Māori aspirations to political, social, economic and cultural wellbeing by promoting teaching and learning practices that are uniquely tikanga Māori focused.

We currently deliver 11 health programmes ranging from Level 2 to Level 5.
