New Zealand Certificate in Te Pōkaitahi Reo Kaupae Rua Programme (Level 2)
Qualifications
The aim of this programme is to provide tauira with a foundation on which to start their journey encouraging and upholding the mana of Te Reo Maori, the language of our ancestors (Tupuna).
By the end of this programme tauira will be, able to:
- Use te reo Māori vocabulary and grammatical structures at a basic level as an expression of mana tangata.
- Use te reo at a basic level to talk about themselves and their own connections to the land and the environment as an expression of mana whenua.
- Apply technical knowledge of basic reo to everyday use, and develop respect for te reo, as an expression of mana reo.
- Use te reo at a basic level to achieve tasks in familiar contexts as an expression of mana ao tūroa.
Outline
This course will cover:
- Te Mauri – Provides tauira with the foundation needed to start their journey in te reo Māori, encouraging and upholding the mana of the native language of our ancestors.
- Te Kōhure – Identifies and implements basic communications about personal information, such as name, parents and grandparents, iwi, hapu, river and hometown also to communicate about one’s location, relationship/s between people and possessions
- Poipoi – Highlights the communications about likes, dislikes, giving reasons where appropriate, communicate about time, weather seasons and physical characteristics, personality, and feelings, also encourages comparing and contrasting, about habits, routines and customs, communication about immediate and past activities.
- Te Haerenga – Highlights communication about events and where they take place, gives and follows directions, including comparing and contrasting, about how people travel, revisits immediate and past activities.

Duration 20 weeks comprising 4 noho marae (1 per month) of 2 days duration
