New Zealand Certificate in Public Health and Health Promotion (Level 5)
Qualifications
The purpose of this qualification is to provide the public health sector with a workforce with common generic public health and health promotion competencies.
Graduates will work with groups to promote and protect public health, and improve health outcomes in a public health context. They will demonstrate the baseline knowledge, skills and attributes required of public health and/or health promotion practitioners, to implement public health initiatives.
This course provides a pathway to diploma and degree level courses in this and other fields. For example, Bachelor of Public Health.
Outline
This course will cover:
- The public health environment.
- Public health provision in New Zealand.
- The determinants of health.
- Building and maintaining relationships.
- Planning and contributing to a community health promotion event.
- The impact of the Treaty of Waitangi on public health issues.
Structure
Duration: 26 weeks, 5 noho marae over 5 months and a 160 hour practicum.
